20th-Jun-2015

Interception put up a really nice performance on her debut this season when she finished second to Blhadawa in a listed fillies’ race over six furlongs at Haydock last month.

She was held up out the back in the early stages of that race, a race in which the pace held up well and in which it was an advantage to race handily. She made nice progress from the rear and only went down by three parts of a length to the winner, the pair of them clear.

It would have been nice if Blhadawa had done a little better than she did at The Curragh on Sunday, when she finished last of six behind Ainippe in a Group 3 race, but she is a quirky filly, and she actually ran well for a long way. Also, the Haydock race was run in a fast time, the fastest time on a good day’s racing and just 0.07secs/furlong slower than Racing Post par.

The handicapper raised her 5lb for that run, but that is understandable, she recorded a Racing Post Rating of 105 and she gets to race off a mark of 102 now. More than that, however, she was worth more than the bare form of the race, and she is an improving filly. She has raced just 12 times in her life, and that was her seasonal debut. It is reasonable to expect significant improvement from her.

The final piece in the case is her ability to act at Ascot. She has run just once there, in a listed race on soft ground last October, when she put up the best performance of her career up to that point in finishing third, beaten just a length, to Al Thakhira. Also, she goes well on Polytrack and Tapeta, her record on artificial surfaces reads 11154, and that is always a positive for Ascot’s straight track.

David Lanigan’s filly goes well on fast ground and on easy ground, and the Wokingham is her only entry at Royal Ascot. It is worth getting her on side now at 33/1.

INTERCEPTION WON (ADV 33/1, SP 10/1)
