Past Winners » Wells Farhh Go

12th-Jul-2018

I am giving Wells Farhh Go another chance in the Bahrain Trophy.  We had Tim Easterby’s horse on side when he was well beaten in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot, but nothing went right for him in that race.

He was keener than ideal behind a relatively sedate pace that Frankie Dettori was allowed to set on Raa Atoll.  As well as that, and because of that, he was further back than ideal when they quickened up front.  It was always going to be difficult for him to make ground into a quickening pace.

He did get going in the home straight, and he finished off his race well to take sixth place, five and a half lengths behind the winner Old Persian.

The form of that race is working out well, with the second and fifth finishing second and fourth respectively in the Irish Derby, and the third, Giuseppe Garibaldi, finishing second in the Group 2 Curragh Cup.

Giuseppe Garibaldi re-opposes today, and he is a danger, but he raced closer to the pace than Wells Farhh Go did at Ascot, and he is a much shorter price today.  Also, Wells Farhh Go is a staying type who should do better with the much longer home straight today, and the extra furlong, and the faster pace that he will surely get today.

The Farhh colt has been beaten now in his two runs as a three-year-old, and there is a chance that he is not going to make the expected progression from two to three.  But the pace was unsuitably slow in both his races this season to date, his other run was in the Dante, and he is deserving of a chance to prove his ability now at three. He was a very good and promising juvenile.  In two runs he won a novice stakes at York and he followed up by winning the Group 3 Acomb Stakes back at York.

This is a good race, but First Eleven is fashionable now after an unlucky-looking run at Royal Ascot, and that was in a handicap, not a Group 2 race.  Loxley is interesting, but he has to step forward a fair bit now from his win at this track on his debut this term last month, and he is priced up as if he will.

WELLS FARHH GO WON (ADV 8/1, SP 7/1)
