Past Winners » Robinsfirth

16th-Feb-2019

I think that Robinsfirth could run a big race in the Grand National Trial.

Colin Tizzard’s horse did well to get as close to Wakanda as he did last time in the Peter Marsh Chase.  He made a few mistakes, and he came under pressure early, but he stayed on really well from the second last fence, he stayed on past Ballyarthur on the run-in and got to within less than two lengths of the winner.

The handicapper raised him by 2lb for that win, which was fair.  That was his first run since he won a small-field handicap chase at Cheltenham in December 2017, so there is every chance that he will come on for it.  Also, he is 10 years old, but it was just his seventh run over fences.  He could still have more to offer.

We know that he goes well at Haydock, he has now finished second in both his runs there, and the step up to an extended three and a half miles today could bring about further improvement.

Wakanda was raised by 4lb for that win, so Robinsfirth meets him on 2lb better terms, and that, combined with his potential for progression, and the step up in trip, could allow Colin Tizzard’s horse reverse placings.

Impulsive Star and Red Infantry were also on my shortlist, but I am happy to leave it at Robinsfirth.

ROBINSFIRTH WON (ADV 8/1, SP 8/1)
