Past Winners » Lady Bowthorpe

2nd-May-2021

You can understand why Queen Power is favourite for the Dahlia Stakes.  She is obviously a well regarded filly, she finished second to Terebellum in this race last year and she finished second to Nazeef in the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, and she finished fourth in the Nassau Stakes.  But she was well beaten in a listed race at Salisbury in August on her final run last year.

She may well win this, she could progress to take a high rank among the middle-distance fillies this season, but she has only won two of her nine races, and she is short today …

Lady Bowthorpe progressed through the early part of last season, and she was impressive in winning a Group 3 contest over a mile on the round course at Ascot at the end of July.

She only finished sixth in her last two races last season, but she wasn’t beaten far in the first of them, in the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown in August, when she finished behind Posted and Lavender’s Blue, held up in a race that was run to suit the prominent racers, and staying on well from the rear.

Her final run of the season was in the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes run on unsuitably soft ground, when she was up significantly in class.  She still ran well though, she kept on well on the far side, furthest from the stands rail, and she was beaten less than four lengths.

She goes well fresh, she won on her seasonal debut last season, and she could out-run her odds today.

LADY BOWTHORPE WON (ADV 11/2, SP 6/1)
