Jancis

11th-Jul-2024

I am backing Jancis in the Brownstown Stakes at Leopardstown this evening.

She is a little bit of a shot in the dark, she has only raced once, but she put up a big performance on that occasion to win her maiden, coming from the rear in a race in which the second and third fillies, Ebanza and Lucky Out, raced prominently from early.

Her closing sectionals were fast too, she was fastest of all through each of the last three furlongs, and the winning time was the fastest of the five seven-furlong races that were run on the evening, over half a second faster than the Group 3 Ballycorus Stakes.

Special Wan ran a big race in the Ballycorus Stakes to finish second behind Mutasarref, and she is a wholly likeable filly who has proven class and who is a big player this evening. But Jancis could take a nice step forward now from her racecourse debut, back over the same course and distance, and Willie McCreery's filly shouldn't be as far behind Special Wan in the betting as she is in my book.

JANCIS WON (ADV 5/1, SP 11/2)
