Aesterius

13th-Sept-2024

I am backing Aesterius in the Flying Childers Stakes.

True, he has to reverse places with Big Mojo from the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood, but I am not certain that he ran to the best of his ability that day.  It all happened very quickly.  Also, he only has three parts of a length to find with Big Mojo from that run, and he is around twice his price.

Not every horse can operate to the best of his or her ability on Goodwood’s fast track, on fast ground, and Archie Watson’s horse is better judged on the performance that he put up in winning the National Stakes at Sandown on Eclipse weekend in July, when he ran out an impressive winner from It Ain’t Two.  Sandown’s stiff five furlongs seemed to suit him much better than Goodwood’s, his winning time was about six seconds slower than Big Mojo’s winning time in the Molecomb.

Aesterius has since made all the running to win a Group 3 race on easy ground at Longchamp, and he should appreciate the ease in the ground at Doncaster today too.  I like his draw in stall 11 towards the near side, the high-drawn horses seemed to be favoured on the straight track yesterday, and I can see him running a big race.

AESTERIUS WON (ADV 5/1, SP 7/2)
