I am backing Scorthy Champ and Hill Road in the National Stakes.

Scorthy Champ has two lengths to find with Henri Mattisse on their running in the Futurity Stakes last time, but he was slowly away that day, as he had been when he won his maiden at Leopardstown on his racecourse debut, and he had to play catch-up.  He finished off his race well, he could have been marked up at least a little on the bare form of that run.

As well as that, that was his first run since he won his maiden at Leopardstown in May, and he shaped as if the run would bring him forward.  He could take a step forward today, especially if he can get away on terms with his rivals, and he could run a big race.
