Jasmin De Vaux

Message of 8th February 2025

I am backing Jasmin De Vaux now for the Albert Bartlett Hurdle.  I think that he is well over-priced.

He is a little bit of a forgotten horse now, but he won the Champion Bumper at last year’s Festival, which proved that he could operate at Cheltenham and under Cheltenham Festival conditions.

He didn’t jump well on his debut this season at Navan, but he still had the class to prevail, staying on well to get the better of a talented horse in The Enabler.  He was sent off as warm favourite for the Grade 1 Lawlor’s of Naas Hurdle on the back of that, but his jumping was poor again, and he didn’t get away with that in a Grade 1 race.

His jumping was much better last time though, at the weekend in the Nathaniel Lacy Hurdle.  Perhaps the first-time cheekpieces helped, but he is gaining in experience, and you can be sure that he will continue to progress under the tutelage of Willie Mullins.  He seemed to get out-paced at the second last flight in the Nathaniel Lacy Hurdle before keeping on well up the home straight.  He didn’t get close to the winner Final Demand, but he just missed out on third place behind Mozzies Sister.

It looks like Final Demand is going for the Baring Bingham Hurdle and, with Kopek Des Bordes top of the Willie Mullins tree in the Supreme, Jasmin De Vaux, who has plenty of stamina in his pedigree, could be one of the top Willie Mullins hopes for the Albert Bartlett Hurdle.

The fact that he has Cheltenham Festival winning form is massive, and I can see him going off a fair bit shorter on the day than the price at which we can back him now.

JASMIN DE VAUX WON (ADV 16/1, SP 6/1)
