Asgard’s Captain

Asgard’s Captain

22nd-Aug-2025

Mount Atlas is a logical favourite for this.  He was good in winning at Ascot last time, but this is a step up in grade and he is under-priced in my book in such a competitive race.  That leaves a few of his rivals over-priced ...

Asgard’s Captain could also go well.  He is also proven at York, on his only run there, in a handicap at last year’s Dante meeting, he kept on well to finish fifth behind Dancing In Paris off a mark of 84.

He is ony 4lb higher now, and he has been in good form this season.  He ran out an impressive winner of a 12-furlong handicap at Epsom’s April meeting, and, last time, he ran better in the Shergar Cup Challenge than the bare form of the run suggests.  He has a length to find with Insanity on that run, but he was held up early on in a race that was not run at a strong pace.  The winner’s finishing speed was over 110% of overall speed.

Asgard’s Captain was keen early on too, but he finished off his race best of all to take fifth place, just two lengths behind the winner Night Breeze.  The stronger pace that he should get today will suit him better, and he could out-run his odds by a fair way.

ASGARD’S CAPTAIN WON (ADV 14/1, SP 16/1)
