Three Card Brag

Three Card Brag

25th-Oct-2025

The Short Go was my starting point here, he ran a big race in this race last year to finish second to his stable companion Senior Chief, in a race that Henry de Bromhead has won for each of the last two seasons.  However, lots of other people obviously liked him too, and he was just too short.  I can see him running well, but he shouldn’t be as short as he is in my book.

I preferred Three Card Brag at the prices.  Gordon Elliott’s horse put up a big performance in the Kerry National last time to finish second to Spanish Harlem.  Spanish Harlem could be a big player in some of the top staying handicap chases this season, and the form of the race has already been boosted by the third horse French Dynamite, who won the Munster National next time.  He is now 8lb higher than he was at Listowel.

Three Card Brag can race off a British mark today that is just 4lb higher than the Irish mark off which he raced that day, and that is fair.  He should appreciate the greater test of stamina that he will get today, the trainer’s horses are in really good form, he had that remarkable five-timer at Far Hills last Saturday, and he will have Jack Kennedy for company.

Transmission was on my shortlist, and I can see the enigmatic Dunboyne running well, but Three Card Brag is the bet.

THREE CARD BRAG WON (ADV 11/1, SP 6/1)
