Grand Geste

20th-Dec-2025

There is no rocket science to the case for Grand Geste in the Tommy Whittle Chase. He is just a progressive chaser who has looked good in each of his two chases, and who has the potential for more.

Already he is a better chaser than hurdler.  He hasn’t won yet, but he was just nutted by Alcedo at Newcastle last time, and that horse ran a big race in a better race at Doncaster last Saturday off a 6lb higher mark. Grand Geste has to race off a 7lb higher mark today, he is 2lb out of the handicap, but he is progressive enough to be able to cope with that

He should appreciate the step up in distance today, he stayed an extended three miles over hurdles, and the Joel Parkinson/Sue Smith yard is operating at a strike rate of 27%.  There are lots of positives.

Famous Bridge was on my shortlist, and My Silver Lining could come into it if it came up very testing, but Grand Geste is the bet.

GRAND GESTE WON (ADV 9/2, SP 15/8)
