Klub De Reve
21st-Feb-2026
It is not surprising that Mustang Du Breuil, a Nicky Henderson four-year-old who won well on his only run in Britain so far, who gets all the age allowances. But this is a big step up in grade, from winning a four-year-olds only National Hunt Novices’ Hurdle at Doncaster, into an all-aged Grade 2 contest, a Dovecote Hurdle.
I am happy to be against him at the price, and I think that Klub De Reve is over-priced. A point-to-point winner for Donnchadh Doyle, he has been progressing nicely for Harry Derham this season over hurdles.
He has progressed for each of his first two runs over hurdles, and he put up a career-best last time when he won his maiden hurdle at Kempton on St Stephen’s Day. He led for much of the journey that day. He ceded the lead over the fourth last and third last flights after he was impeded a little by a loose horse, but he still travelled well, and he was back in front at the second last. He cleared away from there to win by 10 lengths.
He can probably be marked up even on the bare form of the run.
That form hasn’t really been tested since, none of the first three home have run, but the sixth horse Ionian came out and finished a good second to the progressive Crackerjaque at Sandown at the end of last month.
He is back over the same course and distance now as the course and distance over which he won so impressively, and the ground should be similar, maybe a little softer. It is probable that connections have kept him for this, given that he is proven at the track, and he should go well.
