Earth Shot

Legacy Link is the correct favourite for the Ribblesdale, but she had to have had a hard race in the Oaks, on soft ground, and that was less than two weeks ago. There has to be a chance that she will not be at concert pitch today.

I am happy to take her on with Earth Shot. William Haggas’ filly was impressive in winning her maiden at Newmarket on her seasonal return over 10 furlongs, and she ran really well in the Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood next time, the last Oaks trial. She battled on bravely on the far side that day to go down by just a head to Inis Mor.

The sedate early pace shouldn't have been ideal for her that day, and the form was significantly enhanced when Inis Mor when to Chantilly on Sunday and finished third in the French Oaks.

That was just Earth Shot’s third race ever, so she should improve for it. Also, out of a mare who wonthe Group 3 Bronte Cup over a mile and six furlongs, she should appreciate the step up to a mile and a half today, and the stronger early pace that she should get.

EARTH SHOT WON (ADV 9/2, SP 4/1)
