Secret Millionaire

Secret Millionaire put up a really good performance and may have been a shade unlucky in a five-furlong handicap at Ascot on Saturday. Patrick Morris’s gelding won the race in the centre of the track, were most of the field were, beating Prohibit by a neck. He picked up really well, having travelled well to the two-furlong marker and kept on really well all the way to the line, and he was probably unlucky to finish third overall, behind Masamah and Matsunosuke, who almost certainly benefitted from racing on the near side, and Masamah upheld the form by running out an impressive winner at Chester on Sunday.

This was much more like it from Secret Millionaire. He was one of only two three-year-olds in the field and he was racing from 1lb out of the handicap, effectively 4lb wrong altogether, as rider Louis-Philippe Beuzilin could not use his 3lb claim. He has been running okay so far this year, but this was a step forward on anything that had gone before and he will be interesting wherever he turns up next off his current mark.
