Lucky Windmill

Lucky Windmill is worth another chance after his run to finish sixth in a competitive 10-furlong handicap at Beverley on Saturday. This was only his fourth ever run and he was weak in the market beforehand, he chased the fast pace set by Aattash from the beginning and he was still bang there at the two-furlong pole, before he faded on the run-in, giving way to the horses who came from off the pace.

Walter Swinburn’s horse ran better than his finishing position suggests. He may probably didn’t fully see out the 10-furlong trip, and he probably wasn’t helped in that regard by the fact that he chased the really fast pace that Aattash set. He should be better off back over a mile now, the distance over which he was such an impressive winner on his previous run at Pontefract, when he won by eight lengths in a good time. This was only his fourth ever run and he can progress again from here. He will be interesting if he is dropped back down to a mile next time.
