Fanaar

Fanaar was a little unlucky in the 7f nursery. He was hemmed in on the rail with no gap through which to deliver his challenge with 2f to run. When he did get out, Arctic Sound had flown and, although Jim Crowley was not overly hard on him when it was obvious that he couldn’t win, he still closed on the leader all the way to the line. He did well to do so too, in a race that was run at a sedate pace and in which they quickened through the final 2f.

Fanaar had never before run on easy ground and he had never raced at a distance in excess of 6f before, but he handled the ground well and he stayed 7f, without the blinkers that he wore for the first time on his previous run. The handicapper raised him by 6lb to a mark of 91 and, while he will still be of interest in another nursery off that mark, he could also step up in grade.
