Kastasa

Kastasa did well to finish third in the 1m 4f handicap. Racing from stall 21, widest of all, she was wider than ideal the whole way. She was wide around the first turn and she was wide as they raced out of the back straight. About six horses wide as they turned for home, she stayed on well down the outside, despite getting buffeted around a little. She finished off her race well for Ben Coen to take third place and, while it never looked like she was going to get to the impressive winner King’s Vow, she would have got up for second in another couple of strides.

Dermot Weld’s filly raced just once last season, and she got off the mark on her debut this term, staying on well to win a nine-and-a-half-furlong maiden at Clonmel last month. This was just her second run of the season and her third run ever, so she should improve for the experience. Also, out of a half-sister to Irish St Leger winner Kastoria, she could improve for stepping up beyond 1m 4f in trip.
