Beringer

Beringer only just failed to get up and land the 10-furlong handicap.   Settled in mid-division and on the inside of the field early on by Andrea Atzeni, he was a little keen behind only a moderate pace. He travelled well into the home straight, and he made nice ground among horses. He travelled best to the two-furlong marker and, taken to the outside, he picked up well and he stayed on strongly all the way to the line. Jazeel picked up well just in front if him, however, and he just couldn’t catch Jedd O’Keeffe’s horse.

It was still a fine run by Alan King’s horse. His four runs this season before this were all over a mile, but he won twice over 10 furlongs last season, he stays the trip well. This was just his second run in cheekpieces, it was up there with the best of his career, and he will be of interest again now over 10 furlongs. The handicapper raised him by 1lb to a mark of 99, which was fair enough. He appears to be versatile in terms of ground conditions and track configuration, he goes well at York and Newmarket and Goodwood, and there could be a good 10-furlong handicap in him now off this type of mark.
