Innisfree

Innisfree ran a nice race on his racecourse debut to finish second to his stable companion Year Of The Tiger in the seven-furlong maiden. Aidan O’Brien’s colt was settled at the rear of the field early on by Emmet McNamara. Still last at the two-furlong marker, he picked up nicely when he moved towards the outside. It never really looked like he was going to get to Year Of The Tiger, who travelled easily and picked up well on the run to the furlong pole, but he kept on nicely to move into a clear second inside the final furlong.

By Galileo, Innisfree is out of Palace, a granddaughter of Sonic Lady and a listed race winner over a mile, who stayed 10 furlongs, so he could do even better as he steps up in trip. He should improve for this, his racecourse debut, as most of the Ballydoyle debutants do. He holds entries in the Group 1 National Stakes and in next year’s Derby, and he should be able to win his maiden soon before stepping up in class.
