Agincourt

Agincourt was only just beaten in the seven-furlong fillies’ handicap. Prominent from early, she was just a little keen through the early stages of the race, but she travelled well into the home straight. She picked up well too from the front when Danny Tudhope asked her to, and it looked like she was going to repel all challengers, but she was just mugged inside the final 25 yards by the 66/1 shot Excellent Times.

This was probably another step forward from David O’Meara’s filly. She had run well on her previous run in a listed race over a mile at Pontefract, when she led from early and was just run down close home up the final incline by Exhort and Billesdon Brook, who won the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood next time. She was suited by this drop back down to seven furlongs, and she will be of interest again over this trip. The form of this race is working out well too, with the winner Excellent Times winning next time too at Thirsk off a 3lb higher mark, and fifth-placed Breathtaking Look winning the Group 3 Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting. A 2lb hike is not harsh for Agincourt, but she would also be worth another try in listed or even in Group 3 company, ideally in smaller fields in which she may not face big competition for an early lead.
