Camacho Chief

Camacho Chief ran on well to take fourth place in the concluding five-furlong handicap. Held up early on by Connor Beasley, he made good progress through traffic from the two-furlong marker. He wasn’t stopped in his run, but he didn’t have an untroubled path either, and he had to move to his right inside the final furlong in order to continue his forward momentum. He only finished fourth, but he was only beaten a total of a length by the winner, his stable companion Pendleton.

It was still a fine run from Michael Dods’ horse, it was up there with the best of his career, and he would have been even closer in another few strides. He has had plenty of running, but he is obviously in good form, and there could be a sprint handicap in him now before the end of the season on soft ground. Five furlongs, soft ground and a fast pace are all positives for him, and he goes well at Doncaster, so he will be of interest if he runs there on 9th November.
