Kalooki

Kalooki ran a fine race to finish second behind Ramses De Teillee in the Grade 2 Prestige Hurdle. He sat in behind leader Ramses De Teillee, the pair of them had it between them pretty much from flagfall, and he appeared to be travelling better than the favourite as they raced towards the end of the back straight. Ramses De Teillee stays well, he finds plenty for pressure, but Kalooki was up on his outside and apparently travelling better when he made a significant mistake at the final flight. Ramses De Teillee out-gunned him from there up the run-in, but he still kept on well to finish second, clear of the rest.

Zero for four in bumpers, Philip Hobbs’ horse had progressed in his three runs over hurdles this season. Impressive in winning his previous two races, this was a step up from those two runs, even though he was beaten, on his first attempt at three miles. He stayed it okay, and he will be of interest again over this trip. He is only six and he has plenty of scope for progression.
