Champers Elysees

Champers Elysees was impressive in winning the seven-furlong handicap.

A little keen early on, Danny Sheeky got her tucked in on the outside of the field and, when he took her out and asked her to pick up, she showed a really smart turn of foot. That took her to the front probably earlier than ideal, but she kept on well through the final furlong and, while Bright Idea finished off his race well on the far side, and Leadership Race stayed on well from the rear to take third, it never really looked like either of them was going to catch the winner.

It was a nice performance by Johnny Murtagh’s filly on her seasonal debut. Winner of an auction race at The Curragh last September on heavy ground, this was the fastest ground she had ever encountered, and she bounced off it. The handicapper raised her by 8lb to a mark of 94, but this was a career-best performance, and there is every chance that she can step forward again. This seven-furlong trip suited her well.
