Fancy Blue

Fancy Blue did really well to run on as well as she did to finish second in the Irish 1000 Guineas. Settled back in the field early on by Declan McDonogh from her outside draw, she was still second last of the 11 runners as they passed the three-furlong marker. She stayed on well from there though, down the outside, widest of all. She finished best of all to take third place in front of So Wonderful, two lengths behind Peaceful.

It was a fine run from Donnacha O’Brien’s filly, coming from the rear in a race in which the pace held up well. The other three fillies who, with her, filled the first four places, all raced in the first four throughout. She was the only filly who was able to get close from the rear.

This was just her third run. She won both her races last season, a seven-furlong maiden at Naas on good ground and a one-mile listed race at The Curragh on soft ground. She is talented and she is progressive and, by Deep Impact out of a full-sister to High Chaparral, she could do even better over further.
