Galtee Mist

Galtee Mist put up a good performance to finish third behind Sonaiyla and Music To My Ears in the seven-furlong premier fillies’ handicap.

She was smartly away for Mark Gallagher from her wide draw, and she travelled well up on the outside of the field.  She came under pressure early enough, but she found for pressure and, even when Music To My Ears moved up on her outside and passed her, she kept on well.  She ran all the way to the line, going down by just over a length in the end.

Joe Murphy’s filly had shaped promisingly on her debut this season, in a handicap at The Curragh run over an inadequate six furlongs, when she stayed on well after having to be switched to take sixth place behind Nordic Passage.  This was a step forward from that and, still only four, there is every chance that she will progress again.  She shaped here as if she would be worth a try over a mile, she has never been beyond seven furlongs on her life, or at least back over a stiff seven furlongs.  One for one at Galway – she sprang a 20/1 shock in a handicap at last year’s festival – she will be of interest if she goes there next week and, given the stiff nature of Galway’s finish, seven furlongs there could be ideal.
