Monaasib

Monaasib was impressive in winning the six-furlong maiden.  Settled nicely by Chris Hayes just behind a good pace that Magnanimous set on the far side, he came under pressure early enough, but he picked up well when his rider gave him a squeeze.  He moved a little towards the near side at the two-furlong pole, but he picked up really nicely and went away to post an impressive victory. He looked around him a little when he hit the front, but he kept going forward, he ran all the way to the line.

This was just Monaasib’s third run.  Runner-up to Ken Condon’s impressive debutante Teresa Mendoza over this course and distance nine days earlier, this was a nice step forward by Kevin Prendergast’s colt on just his third run.  He shaped here as if he might do even better stepped back up to seven furlongs, the distance over which he ran on his racecourse debut.  His dam won over six furlongs, but she is a half-sister to Illustrious Blue, who won a Goodwood Cup and a Sagaro Stakes.  He obviously has lots of potential for progression now with this win under his belt, but he could progress even further for a step back up in trip.
