Sharinay

There was a lot to like about the performance that Sharinay put up in winning the nine-furlong premier handicap at The Curragh on Sunday. He always travelled well behind the talented leader Arabic Legend, and, once into the clear, he quickened up nicely for Ronan Whelan to catch and pass the leader inside the final furlong, stretching on to win by almost two lengths.

It was a fine performance by Michael Halford & Tracey Collins’ horse, building on a good run at Naas on his previous run when he finished a good second to subsequent Jersey Stakes third Chicago Critic.

The handicapper raised him by 8lb to a mark of 103, but he deserves a shot at a stakes race now. Michael Halford mentioned the Meld Stakes as a possible target, a Group 3 race at Leopardstown in two weeks’ time, and he would be well worth his place in that.
