Royal Entry

Royal Entry can be marked up at least a little on the bare form of the performance that she put up in finishing second in the 10-furlong maiden that brought the curtain down on the weekend’s proceedings at The Curragh last Sunday. Slowly away from her outside draw, she made ground up on the outside of runners in order to adopt a fairly prominent position after they had gone a furlong. She was wider than ideal and a little keener than ideal around the home turn, but she still travelled well into the home straight, and she picked up well when Rory Cleary asked her to. She hit the front on the run to the two-furlong marker and she looked a likely winner but, in the end, her early exertions probably told as she was run down close home Belfrina.

It was a nice performance by Jim Bolger’s filly, who was racing for the first time since she finished sixth behind Siege Of Troy in a maiden over Sunday’s course and distance in July. She had done well on her previous run to finish third behind two seriously well-bred colts in Duraji and Vice President, himself a maiden winner since. She is a well-bred filly herself, a daughter of Fracas and a full-sister to Round Tower Stakes winner Smash Williams. She should be able to improve on this, just her fourth run and her first run back after a break.
