Truthwillsetufree

Truthwillsetufree is worth keeping an eye on now for the latter stages of the season after a good run in the decent 12-furlong fillies’ handicap at The Curragh on Sunday.

Relatively weak in the market beforehand, she travelled well out wide in mid-division, unlike the eventual winner and runner-up, who raced up the inside until past halfway. The Dalakhani filly moved up on the outside into the home straight and took up the running briefly a furlong out, but she just couldn’t hold match her two rivals, both useful, unexposed and well-backed, Levanto and Drifting Mist. Even so, Truthwillsetufree still kept on well to finish third.

This was just the second run this term for Dermot Weld's filly. She had shaped well on her reappearance, just the seventh run of her life, at Leopardstown behind Majestic Jasmine over nine furlongs, which was probably an inadequate test, especially on fast ground.

She should progress again from Sunday's run. The front three travelled like the best three fillies in the race from a fair way out, and she may just be a little under-rated next time because she was only third. She goes on this fast ground, but she also has decent form on easy ground. She was second to Inis Meain last September on heavy ground when Inis Meain was rated 87 (he is now rated 110 and is a very useful horse on easy ground), and she had won her maiden on good to soft ground at Sligo before that. She is worth keeping an eye on now. We may see the best of her in the autumn.
