Broad Street
Broad Street could only finish third behind Latrobe in the Ballyroan Stakes, but he still looks like a colt of some potential. Held up early on by Oisin Orr, Dermot Weld's colt travelled well down the back straight, but he got crowed out of it a bit as they started to turn for home, he was wider than ideal and he had to engineer racing room for himself. By the time he was in the clear, he had three or four lengths to make up on Latrobe. It never looked like he was going to catch him, but he kept on well enough to take third place, just two and a half lengths behind the winner.
It was a fine run by the Sea The Stars colt on just his third run ever. Winner of his maiden at Navan in May last year on his only run as a juvenile, Khalid Abdullah's colt was game in winning over nine and a half furlongs at Gowran Park on his three-year-old debut. This was obviously a significant step up in grade, into a Group 3 race and taking on last year's Irish Derby winner, but he proved that he was up to this level at least. He saw out this 12-furlong trip well, and he will be of interest wherever he goes next. He holds an entry in the Kilternan Stakes at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend, a race that his trainer has won four times in the last five years with four different horses, and that would be a legitimate target, back over Thursday's course and distance.
